ITEMS OF INTEREST TRANSNUCLEAR, INC.

On June 2, 1987, a representative of the Fuel Cycle Safety Branch visited the Transnuclear, Inc., site in Aiken, South Carolina, to discuss additional information needed for the licensing review. Transnuclear, Inc., has a new license application pending for storage of UF cylinders containing SNM heels.

6 WEST VALLEY SUPERNATANT TREATMENT SYSTEM The Supernatant Treatment System at the West Valley Demonstration Project is 99 percent completed. This system will process the liquid high-level wastes stored in tanks at West Valley in preparation for vitrification. The system start-up is scheduled for November 1987.

STATUS OF HEARINGS 1.

Sequoyah Fuels, Gore, Oklahoma, Comprehensive Waste Disposal Plan Sequoyah Fuels Corporation submitted the Comprehensive Radiological Solid Waste Management Plan as required by Source Material License No. SUB-1010, Condition 21 on November 13, 1986. There has not been a schedule set for this proceeding. On March 25, 1987, Sequoyah Fuels Corporation petitioned for termination of the proceeding on the basis that no onsite disposal is now planned. The Presiding Officer has not yet ruled on the petition.

The staff is not a party to the proceeding, but has responded to a request from the Presiding Officer for its views on the status of Sequoyah Fuels' actions that would support its petition.

Kerr-McGee, West Chicago, Illinois, Kress Creek Decontamination On May 28, 1987, the staff filed a motion to terminate the Kress Creek proceeding and to vacate the licensing Board's initial decision dismissing the Order to Show Cause, g6110427870603 ADOCK 07003051 C

This hearing is being held in abeyance pending the staff's completion of the supplement to the Environmental Impact Statement. The current schedule calls for issuance of the Draft Supplement in June 1987, and the Final in late 1987. The Board has indicated that they may resume a portion of the Hearing after the Draft is issued.
