NRC TMI-2 CLEANUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE WEEKLY STATUS REPORT FOR MAY 23 - 31, 1987 1.
DEFUELIfiG Pick and place cefueling continued.
Partial length fuel assemblies B-9, C-9, B-10, and C-10 were removed from the lower grid using the l
fuel assembly puller and the core debris digger.
1 One canister was loaded, three canisters were portially loaded and three previously loaded canisters were transferred to the spent fuel pool.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORIMG US Environmental Protection Ager.cy (EPA) sample analysis results show that TdI site liquid effluents are in accordance with reguletory limits, NRC requirements, and the City of Lar. caster Agreement.
TMI water effluents from the station (Units 1 and 2) discharge are analyzed by EPA. Gamma spectrum analyses of the seven daily composited samples for May 9 - 16, 1987 indicated no TNI-2 related radioactivity.
EPA's gamma spectrua analysis of the NRC's TMI cutdoor air samples for hay 15 - 22, 1987 and May 22 - 28, 1987 showed no reactor related radioactivity.
Thc water works for the City of Lancaster composited seven daily samples from May 3 - 9, 1987.
EPA's gamma spectrum analysis of the composite sample showed no reactor related radioactivity.

DECONTA.'ilNATION ACTIVITIES Robot desludging in the reactor building basement continues. About 850 gallons of settled sludge have been generoted.
The project is about halt completed.

PUBLIC fiEETINGS The next meeting of the Advisory Panel for the Decontarination of Three Mile Island Unit 2 will be held on June 10, 1987 from 7:00 - 10:00 PM at the Lanchster Council Chambers, Public Safety building, 201 North Duke Street, Lancaster, PA.
At the meeting, GPU Nuclear will give the Panel a status report on the progress of the cleanup and will coment on the schedule for completing the remaining cleanup tasks. The Panel will discuss the tiraing for a final Connission decision on the disposal of the accident-generated water and will forward a recomendarian to the Comission.
I', embers of the public will be given the opportunity to address the Panel.
