Dear Mr. Bennett:
This is in response to your letter dated April 24, 1986, in which you appealed Mr. Grimsley's letter dated April 18, 1986. Mr. Grimsley's letter denied ten occuments subject to category four of your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for copies of four categories of records regarding the Central Intelligence Agency.
Acting on your appeal, I have carefully reviewed the record in this case, and have determined that some of the previously withheld information can now be released. Therefore, your appeal is partially granted and partially denied.
i The records identified on the enclosed Appendix A and portions of the records identified on the enclosed Appendix B can now be made publicly available and are enclosed.
The denied portions of the three records identified on Appendix B have been determined to be within the scope of $102 (d) (3) of the National Security Act of 1947(50U.S.C.1403(d)(3))and$6oftheCIAActof 1949 (50 U.S.C. 5403g). Therefore, this information is denied pursuant toF0IAexemption(b)(3).
The denied record identified on the enclosed Appendix C has been Order 12356, and falls within the scope of $102 (d) pursuant to Executive determined to be currently and properly classified (3) of the National Security Act of 1947 (50 U.S.C. 1403 (d) (3)) and 56 of the CIA Act of 1949(50U.S.C.5403).
It is, therefore, denied pursuant to FOIA exemptions 9
(b)(1)and(b)(3).
