{{#Wiki_filter:-.. r l TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY l CH ATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE 374o1 l SN 157B Lookout Place MAY 291987 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk l Washington, D.C. 20555 l Gentlemen: j In the Matter of ) Docket Nos 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority ) 50-328 SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT - RELAXATION OF EMERGENCY DIESEL CENERATOR VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY RECOVERY REQUIREMENTS The purpose of this letter is to document discussions during an April 21, 1987 telephone conference call with J. J. Holonich and E. C. Marinos, of the NRC .i staff regarding compliance for Sequoyah with Safety Guide 9, " Selection of Diesel-Generator Set Capacity for Standby Power Supplies." This safety guide states that, during load transients, the voltage should be restored to within 4 10 percent of nominal and the frequency should be restored to within two percent of nominal in less than 40 percent of each load sequence time 3 interval. Sequoyah has previously complied with this guidance. TVA intends to revise its compliance to the recovery requirements in Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.9, " Selection, Design, and Qualification of Diesel-Generator Units Used as Onsite Electric Power Gystems at Nuclear Power i Plants," Revision 1. This recovery interval for voltage and frequency is 60 percent of each load sequence time interval. Sequoyah will implement the RG 1.9, Revision 1, recovery interval requirements immediately. The Final Safety Analysis Report will be revised in the 1988 annual update. Very truly yours, TEKNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY a . h, .
