Dear Dean Cleghorn:

You should be very proud of students and faculty members at the University of Maryland College of Journalism. As participants with us in a nuclear plant l

emergency exercise on November 12, 1986, they represented your school in an excellent manner and greatly assisted us in testirg our capabilities to inform the press and public. We hope that in the process they, too, got some good experience.

I Approximately 25 students and one faculty member - Jon Franklin - came to our offices in Bethesda, Maryland, to play the role of the news media in the exercise. Their interest was high and their questions kept us on our toes.

1 A high degree of the success was attributable to the enthusiasm of three faculty members - Mr. Franklin, Tracey Gottlieb and Maurine Beasley - who encouraged student participation in their classes. Also we thank John Martin who initiated the efforts with the instructors.

It was a pleasure working with such a fine group of students and faculty members.
