Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. M. E. Murphy of this office

during the period July 29-30, 1986, of activities iuthorized by NRC Operating

License R-83 for Texas A&M University, and to the d!scussion of our findings

with Mr. D. E. Feltz of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included records, logs, ando'rganization;

review and audit functions; requalification training; procedures; surveillance

activities; and experiments. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of

selective examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with

personnel, and observations by the inspector. The inspection findings are

documented in the enclosed inspection report.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were

identified.

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously

identified inspection findings. The status of these items is identified in

paragraphs 2 and 7 of the enclosed report.
