White regarding our response to violations 50-327/86-31-01 and 50-328/86-31-01 dated August 12, 1986. This supplemental response addresses additional corrective actions taken for violation 50-327/86-31-01 and 50-328/86-31-01.

ENCLOSURE 1 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE - NRC-OIE INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-327/86-31 AND 50-328/86-31 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO VIOLATION.
50-327/86-31-01 AND 50-328/86-31-01 7
Entrances to high radiation. areas are demarcated by the use of swing gates.
These swing gates are equipped with a self-closing spring mechanism which causes the gate to close after passage of personnel. - We have not experienced any significant problems associated with the use of these swing gates at SQN.
Upon further investigation of this incident, it appears that the case in question represents an isolated event. Notwithstanding, the following
- corrective actions have been taken.
All section supervisors have been informed of this violation and the importance of maintaining these swing gates in the closed position and have been requested to inform their workers of such.
Health Physics personnel have been instructed to ensure that these swing gates are properly installed and in good working condition at all times.
In addition, if this incident proves to be a recurring problem we will take steps to modify the swing gates and/or replace them as appropriate.
