Instrument Calibration Requirements Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) provides the following clarifications regarding calibration of instrumentation utilized for radiation detection.

1)

Instruments utilized for determination of dose rates and contamination levels will be calibrated in accordance with contractor, Chem-Nuclear Systems,Inc.(CNSI)ProeceduresFS-RP-002,"PortableInstrument/ Survey Record Procedure for Field Projects" and S20-RP-015, " Calibration Procedure".

2) Calibration of all contractor (CNSI) radiation monitoring equipment shall be done on a semi-annual basis.
3) Sources / standards utilized in calibrations shall be traceable to the National Bureau of Standards.
4) Current calibration of all contractor (CNSI) radiation monitoring equipment shall be verified by project health physics personnel prior to use.
5) Any instrumentation utilized for radiation detection which is not provided by the contractor, Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. will meet the calibration requirements set forth in the above discussion.

These requirements apply to instruments specified in the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Argonant Reactor Facility Decommissioning Plan, Section 2.1, " Radiological Protection Program" and Table VII, " Radiation Detection Instruments".
