JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 NARRATIVE 'SUlWARY OF OPERATIONS July,' 1986 During the month of July, there was one unit shutdown which occurred on July 18, 1986.

The 2B charging pump-tripped on overload.

The motor was found to have failed due to an arc in the winding. No spares were available. The 2C charging pump had been removed from service earlier to

. hen it was deterinined that.the 2C investigate excessive vibration.

W charging pump could not be repaired prior to the LCO expiring, the. unit was shutdown. The rotating assembly on the-2C charging pump was replaced and the unit returned to power operation on July 22.

The following major safety-related maintenance was' performed in the month of July:

1.

Miscellaneous corrective and preventive maintenance was performed on diesel generators.

2.

Replaced the rotating assembly,on the 20 charging pump.

3.

The 2B charging pump motor was removed and sent offsite for repair.

4.

The 2B post-accident hydrogen analyzer's regulator was repaired.

5.

A tube leak was plugged in the 2C Component Cooling Water heat exchanger.
