STEAM GENERATOR A, B, & C OCTOBER 1985 INTRODUCTION STEAM GENERATOR TUBE ED0Y CURRENT EXAMINATION The second inservice eddy current examination of Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station steam generator tubing was performed during the month of October 1985. This examination was performed in accordance with the ASME "So11er and Pressure Vessel Code"Section XI, 1977 edition, through Summer 1978 addenda and as specified by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Regulatory Guide 1.83, Revision 1, dated July 1975.

The following basic program was used for each steam generator: 100 percent of rows 44 through 49 (all columns), a 4x4 matrix of the remainder of the tubes including row 1, and an inspection of all tube sheet regions within the remaining balance of steam generator tubes. The inspection was conducted from the inlet side (hot leg) for full length (F/L) of tubes and to the 14th support (14c) outlet side (cold leg) for small radius U-bends. The examination was conducted utilizing ' state of the art' digital multifrequency techniques.

S/G A A total of 50 tubes were reported with indications. Thirty-five of the tubes were plugged due to the size of the degradation exceeding the plugging limit.

Of the 50 tubes reported, 9 were found to exhibit evidence of wear scars in the pre-heater area. Eight of the tubes having wear scars had <20 percent imperfections with the remaining tube measuring 25 percent of wall degradation.

S/G B A total of 120 tubes were reported with indications. Of the tubes reported,

, 81 were plugged; 80 due to the size of the degradation exceeding the plugging limit, and 1 (Row 20 Column 94) determined by means of engineering review to be potentially unserviceable because of the size and location of the percent degradation and proximity to the top of the tube sheet. Of the 120 tubes reported 20 exhibited evidence of wear scars in the pre-heater area.

Nineteen of these tubes had <20 percent imperfections with the remaining tube having 21 percent of wall degradation.

Forty-seven tubes were plugged due to the size of the degradation exceeding the plugging limit. Of the 3 remaining plugged tubes, 2 (Row 31 Column 12 and Row 9 Column 76) were determined to be potentially unserviceable due to over-rolling of the tube above the top of the tube sheet. The remaining tube (Row 14 Column 53) was plugged due to engineering determination of potential unserviceability because of the size and location of the reported percent degradation and proximity to the top of the tube sheet. Of the 61 tubes reported, there were 10 which exhibited evidence of wear scars in the pre-heater area. Of these 10, all were reported as having

<20 percent imperfections.
