IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $4,000 By EN 87-01 dated January 12, 1987 the Comission was notified of the intent of IE to issue a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Four Thousand-Dollars ($4,000) to the University of Missouri.

This action was based on violations of NRC requirements involving an extremity

overexposure and inadequate radiation hazard evaluation during a pellet handling operation. As a result, an individual received an extremity dose of approximately 115 rems.

1 The licensee responded to the Notice in letters-dated February 13, 1987. After careful consideration of the _ licensee's responses, the staff has concluded that the violations assessed a. civil penalty did occur as set forth in the Notice . 1 of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty. - Accordingly, an Order-1 Imposing a Civil Penalty in the amount of $4,000 has been. issued today. Under i the-terms of the Order, the licensee may within 30 days of the date of the

- Order, pay the civil penalty or request a hearing.
