The Honorable Lando W.
Zech, Jr.
Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N.W.
Washington, D.C.
20555
Dear Mr. Zech:
I want to commend the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) l for taking steps to ensure the public safety at the Peach Bottom nuclear plant in Pennsylvania.
When confronted by dangerous management practices, or wanton disregard for public safety, the NRC has every justification for taking urgent and immediate steps to avoid a potential disaster.
The promises of nuclear power are slowly dimming under the shadow of potential and actual " human error."
The Chernobyl disaster was caused by human error.
Three Mile Island was j
largely the result of human error.
The NRC must continue to i
closely scrutinize our nuclear power facilities to ensure that j
human error does not cause a nuclear disaster.
Once again, I commend the NRC to taking vigorous action to ensure the public safety.
I am also communicating with the l
Chairman of the Philadelphia Electric Company to express my concern over company practices at Peach Bottom and to gain i
ass, urances that these practices do not, or will not take place at the Limerick Nuclear plant in the 5th Congressional District I serve.
With best wishes, I am Sinc DICK SCHULZ Member of Congress RTS:rh y f5 527 PLEASE RESPOND TO:
