Systen to A. Giambusso, dated April 17, 1973 Technical Assistance is requested in reviewing the classification nodifications to the Hanford No. 2 Rad Waste Systens proposed in the referenced letter. The Rad Waste Systems, as described in the The Hanford ?!o. 2 PSAR, are specified to be in Quality Group C.
applicant now proposes to reclassify these systens to Class D based on the guidelines in Regulatory Guide 1.25 for Quality Group D.
General Electric's Report NEDG-10734, "A General Justification for Classification of Effluent Treatment Systen Equipment As Group D" and on his evaluation of site doses due to ruptures in the liquid and Gaseous Rad Waste Systems presented in the PSAR.
Your assessment of the acceptability of the applicant's proposal will be needed by '4ay 11,1973 ir, crder to accomodate the applicant's design and construction schedule.

PSAR Appendix C, Page C.6-26,f;ote 18 states: "The liquid radvtaste syster storace tanks and portions of the systen containing unprocessed liquid rad.'aste shall be constructed in accordance with the applicable codes of Code Group C.
j PSAR Figures C.5-1 and C.5-3 shcw that the Code Group C c
designation starts at the liquid waste collector tanks.
s PSAR Table C.5-2, page C.5-6 shows that Code Group C involves ASME III-3 piping, while Code Group D allows B.31.1.0 piping.
