SUBJECT:
WPFSS'S ALTERNATES TO ANSI N-101.4-1972 As you requested, we have evaluated the WPPSS's alternate positions to ANSI N-101.4-1972, Quality Assurance for Protective Coatings Applied to Nuclear Facilities.
With regards to WPPSS's alternate position B1 which states that not all quality Class I equiprent will be coated according to this standard, the AAB position is that, Class I service level applies only to those systens and components inside the primary containment of a nuclear facility, which are essential (1) to prevent postulated accidents which cculd affect public health and safety, or (2) to mitigate the conse-quences of these accidents.
The other alternate positions are concerned with quality assurance, and thus fall outside of AAB's review responsibilities.
This evaluation was performed by J. Wing Section A Accident Analysis Branch.
