Mr. A. Giarbusso page 2 April 17, 1973 This rneans that the rad aste collection system consisting of the radioactive equipment and floor drain piping, the radioactiv? equipment and floor drain sumps, the su p purps associated with these surps, and the sump pura distnarge piping would be classified as Code Group D.

A portion of this piping, narely that crbedded in the concrete near the bottom of the reactor Jilding is scheduled to be covered by concrete in about two weeks.

In tne absence of any directi C-CCL we plan on proceeding with design and construction of the rat ection system to reet the requirerents of Code Group D.

2) Extent of Gaseous Rad:aste System PSAR Figure C.5-3 erroneously indicates the Stean Jet Air Ejectors are Code Grcu-C.

E' The effgas systcm starts at the diccharg2 of the last stage air ejector as shc.:n in PSla Fic,ures 9.3-1 and C.5 l.

This is the firs:

point in the systen wnere there is a positive pretsure.

/J 1 p re ce::2-ing points in the systen operate under vacuum conditions with no resultant leakage to the environment.

3) Overall Classificttion of Radc:aste Systen Safety Guide f o. 26 indicates in item C.2-d that corponents in the radt aste systen whose failure would not result in calcalated expos-ures in excess of 0.17 rem whole body at the site boundary ray be classified as Grcup D.

On thr.t basis, and based on our tvaluations presented in the response to FSAR text section 9.4.6.1.11, answer to PSAR question 9.25, and the GE report f:ED0-10734, "A Gener al Justifica-tion for Classif

  • cation of Ef fluent Treatrent System Equiprent as Group D", February 1973, it appears that the entire liquid and gaseo;5 radwaste syster,s should be revised to Code Grcup D ( AEC Quality Group D).

_Does the AEC-Directorate of Licensing acree that a revisien to Grcun D for the entire liauid and casecus racwaste systens is acceptacie?
