Description of Request: Technical Assistance is requested to evaluate the submittal by WPPSS on the sacrificial shield design. This is a post-CP item identified in the SER. The pertinent section of the SER is reproduced below for reference.
10.3.5 Sacrificial Shield In Amendment 2 the applicant stated the sacrificial shield structure and all its components will be designed to sustain the maxiones difforential pressure buildup in the annulus. The differential pressure, however, was not calculated.
In Amendment 12 the applicant has agreed to submit information on the maxiunam differential buildup as well as the design details for our review prior to shield construction. The appliesnt has also stated that the design of the sacrificial shield plugs around pipe penetrations will prevent the plugs from becoming potential missiles for prinary ruptures-within the pressure vessel annuius, we v111 rollos tais item c. iring plant construction.
