Review Status: Complete In accordance with your request the Structural Engineering Branch, Division of Technical Review, has reviewed and evaluated structural sections of the applicant's report: " Sacrificial Shield Wall'-
(WPPSS 74-2-R2) dated March 1974, and the applicant's answers to SEB questions contained in documents 2, 3 and 4 cited above.
The applicant's inforration now covers the design of the whole sacrificial shield well. A final report covering the part of the wall above the base and the openings in the wall has been filed on August 28, 1975.
The applicant's design criteria and the design ethods are in accord-ance with SEB Docuent "B" (June 1973) and Document "A" (June 1974).
Document "A" has primarily been used for the design as slightly core comprehensive. In addition to the load factors indicated in these documents, the applicant has used an uncertainty factor of 1.4 which was applied to the computer pressure cogutation results.

The SEB has reviewed the design criteria and the design methods used by the applicant. The criteria used in the design and analysis of this structure to account for anticipated loadings and postulated conditions that may be imposed upon the structure during service lifetime.are in conformance with established criteria, and with codes, standards, and specifications acceptable to the staff.
The use of these criteria as defined by applicable codes, standards, and specifications; the loads and loading combinations and the design and analysis pmcedure. provide reasonable assurance that, in the event of earthquakes and various postulated accidents occurring within the containment, the structure will withstand the specified design conditions without impairment of structural integrity or the performance of required safety functions. Conformance.with these criteria constitutes an acceptable basis for satisfying in part the requirenents of General Design Criteria 2 and 4.
