NRC STAFF MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME Pursuant to the Board's ruling in Portsmouth on October 3, 1986 (at Tr.

1024), the NRC Staff's Proposed Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law in this proceeding are due to be filed on November 24, 1986. Slightly before 9:00 AM on November 21st, the main computer upon which the Staff's findings were being produced (and in whose memory the findings were stored) " crashed." As of 4:00 PM on the 21st, the computer remains inoperable; in addition, we have been Informed that there is a possibility that the machine's memory may have been completely erased, rendering a portion of the findings irretrievable and requiring retyping of everything else (as well as a great deal of material lost dealing with other cases).

In light of the above, the Staff respectfully requests an extension of time until at least November 26th for the filing of its findings. We have notified the Chairman of this Board orally of the substance of this notion.

In addition, Staff counsel have contacted counsel G

Respectfully submitted, Robert G. Perlis Counsel for NRC Staff Dated at Bethesda, Maryland this 21st day of November, 1986 1
