3.1.2 The LKC warehouse foreman shall be responsible for the storage and isuance of torque wrenches per LKC Procedure 4.9.1.
3.2 Procedure 3.2.1 The LKC QC Inspector shall witness the calibration of all torque wrenches using a torque calibration analyser of + 1% accuracy.
NOTE:
The accuracy of the analyser will be veri-l fied by standard wei'ghts traceable to the NBS.
3.2.2 Procedure for calibrating torque wrenches will be as follows :
3.2.2.1 Adjust the selected range indicator to
.zero and follow the manufacturers instruc-tions on using the' torque analyser.
3.2.2.2 Each wrench shall,be checked over the i

AJr wrencki rs or extensi:ns tre attached c3 the squits drive of a ::rque for the fallowing reasons:
- 1. To attach the torque wrench to various types of fasteners or fittmgs
~
so that torque may be applied.
1-
- 2. To gain access to locations which cannot be reached with the torque wrench alone.
.x e t HOW TO COMPUTE TORQUE u"
.. i.s s.'...e d
WHEN USING ADAPTORS
~
1 g
If an adaptor or extension is attached to the square drive of a Torgo.
' ' ' ' * *
- tyl..y ',J meter or a click-type torque wrench and this adds to its length, then the
't.'
' 'j applied torque will be greater than the dial reading or the pre. set torque.
4 A formula can be used to find what the dial should read or what the pre.
set torque should be in order to obtain the correct applied torque.
S Here is the formula:
_ * ! ~ w ~"_
..':h:
46N::?:D,;
- '"****=,~m-, _ _..
. '"E
- ~ ~ "
egm + -._.
m.
,.m

~
This becomes: RS =
when i
i A+B i-RS = Dial reading or torque setting of the torque wrench.
.I, A =
Distance from the center of the square drive of the torque wrench
.e,,,,
to the center of the handle grip.
Length of the adaptor from the center of the square drive to the B =
center of the nut or bolt. Use only the length which is paralle!
to the handle. See figures 4 and 5.
Torque desired. This is the actual torque applied to the fastener.
l T =
i Here is a typical problem: What should the dial read or the setting y?
j be when "A" is 12", "B" is 6" and "T" is 30 lb. ft.
t,,,,o 4 ',
AXT 12 X 30 360 t
or - or 20 pound foot.
- 5. *
- RS =
or
[
g Q
A+B 12 + 6 18 g;M.d.
I y
Therefore 30 pound foot of Torque will be applied at the fastener
,,..; ;,...... y when "RS" is 20 pound foot.
f
. Ll Note: If the torque wrench reads in pound foot, then "T" should also g', '., '* #'
be in pound foot. "T' and "RS" should be in the same unit of measurement. "A" and "B" should also be the same unit of
.I measurement.
