3.0 PROCEDURE - continued 3.3.2 A Filler Metal Withdrawal Authorization Form (Form #57) will be required for each type and size of electrode and shall be required for each welder. A new Form 57 will be required for each day's welding activity even if the activity is continued from a previous day's work.

3.3.3 Upon receipt of a completed Filler Metal Withdrawal Authorization Form (Form #57), the L. K. Comstock warehouse foreman or rod crib attendant will prepare a rod oven or clean dry container, as applicable, with the required rod and store the oven or container in the crib until it is requested by the welder. The ovens containing weld rod shall be kept heated per the requirements of Paragraph 3.2.5.1.

3.3.3.1 The Form 57 will be kept with the oven or container untti such time as the rod is requested by the welder.

3.3.3.2 Upon the presentation of a valid welder 10 card by the certified welder specified on the Form 57, the warehouse foreman or rod crib attendant shall issue the oven or container and rod to the welder and date stamp the Form 57.

3.3.2.3 The Form 57 shall be forwarded to the LKC QC Department for filing and logging in the Welding Log (See Attachment "A").

.3.3.4 Upon completion of the welding activity specified on the Form i

57, or at the end of each working shift, welders shall return j

y their rod ovens and rod containers to the rod crib.-

3.3.4.1 At the end of each working shift the LKC warehouse D

foreman or rod crib attendant shall verify that all rod ovens have been returned. Any ovens not returned shall be noted and.QC shall be notified.

3.0 PROCEDURE - continued 3.4.3 The. welder shall discard any spoiled electrodes, using the stub pail provided. All electrodes which are solled, wet, contaminated, oil-impregnated or unidentifiable shall be considered " spoiled". Electrodes which have been " spoiled' shall be discarded and cannot be rebaked.

3.4.4 Each welder shall empty his pail daily at the end of his shift or at the completion of the welding activity. All stubs and spoiled electrodes shall be deposited in a locked, uniquely identified barrel. Stub pails shall be used for no other purpose.

3.4.4.1 Each foreman shall walk-down his immediate work area at the end of each shift or at the completion of welding activity to verify that no weld electrodes, stubs, or spoiled electrodes have been lef t out in open. All stub pails shall be locked up in gang boxes or deposited in the crib (s) during the off time.

3.4.5 Under no circumstances shall any filler metal be removed from stub palls or the designated receptacle for use in welding.

Such activity shall subject the welder to disciplinary action,

~

as deemed appropriate by the LKC Project Manager.

NOTE:

Each welder must consider the work to be performed j'

when withdrawing electrodes from the portable oven, in order to reduce waste of electrodes and to provide better control of weld stubs and spoiled material.

Use of low-hydrogen electrodes in conjunction with hot storage will minimize problems of hydrogen cracking welds. Observation of procedures will contribute substantially to weld quality by l.

eliminating hydrogen, which may be introduced by water, water vapor or hydrocarbons. Welders are encouraged to minimize the time between the withdrawal of electrodes from heated ovens and their use in i.elding.
