V. J. Patel (vi Date: 1-15-85 The population of cable pan hangers includes all cable pan hangers, riser supports and non-segregated phase bus duct hangers in safety related areas designed by Sargent & Lundy. Hangers which meet the following criteria will be included in the sample:

Concrete expansion anchors, when required, have been installed and inspected.

(. Concrete expansion anchors are installed by L. K. Comstock Co. and inspected, on a sampling basis, by pittsburgh Testing Laboratory. All anchors attached to one support are accepted when the inspection of samples is complete)

Hanger was QC accepted on, or before, June 30, 1984.

L. K. Comstock Co. or E. C. Ernst Co. have inspected some-f attributes of cable pan hangers on a sampling basis, during the construction of Braidwood.

Attributes not inspected were considered acceptable on the basis of sample inspections.

t Welding and configuration are inspection attributes of cable pan hangers.

Prior to November 1982, configuration was checked only for a sample of safety or non-safety related hangers.

After November 1982, configuration inspection became mandatory for all hangers which support safety related cable pans.

However, the configuration inspection was then osiitted for hangers which support non-safety related cable pans or non-segregated phase bus ducts. These hangers which were not inspected for configuration after November 1982 have'been QC accepted, bas'ed on the results of welding, and/or concrete expansion anchor inspections.

Furthermore, a 100% inspection of welds for all hangers has been performed since the start of construction.

All hanger members, except as noted, were installed and inspected by E.

C. Ernst Co. or L. K. Comstock Co.

Items included in the population of cable pan hang,ers are as follows:

Hanger configuration and location Auxiliary steel and its connection to structural steel, concrete, or embedded plates. The miscellaneous steel (MS) installed inside the containment buildings is not included.

Connections between the support.and auxiliary steel, embedded plates, structural steel, or concrete structures.

Concrete expansion anchors.

Stiffeners (Gust K. Newberg Construction Co. installs and inspects stiffeners. pittsburgh Testing Laboratory performed welding 7

inspections for stiffeners installed prior to May 11, 1984. Gust K. Newberg Construction Company performs welding inspections for 1

l stiffeners installed after May 11, 1984).

Hangers fabricated both off-site and on-site (on-site fabricated hangers are those fabricated at Braidwood by E. C. Ernst Co. or L. K. Comstock Co.

Off-site hangers and hanger members were fabricated by Systems Control Corp).

Embedded plates, structural steel, concrete structures, and miscellaneous steel (MS) installed in Unit #1 and Unit #2 containment building are included in the concrete placements and structural steel populations.

The category I cable pan hanger population nas oeen oecerminwu uy a complete review of Sargent and Lundy's electrical cable pan hanger schedule drawings for the Fuel Handling Building, and both units of the Auxiliary and Reactor buildings.

The population includes all cable pan hangers, bus duct hangers and riser supports in Category I areas.

4 Furthermore, the set of drawings was compared against Sargent'and Lundy's

" Electrical Department Drawing List" dated 11-06-84, for Braidwood Units 1 & 2 to' verify completeness.

Sargent and Lundy's Mapper list of cable pan risers in safety related areas dated 10-29-84, was used to determine the number of riser supports. The following steps were taken to determine the population size:

1)

The set of electrical cable pan hanger sche.dule drawings (HO), cable pan hanger lists (HL), and riser support lists was-assembled.

2)'

All hangers on each hanger schedule or hanger list were counted.

3 Each hanger was assigned a number, but this number was marked for only the first, last, and every tenth consecutive hanger on a drawing. Hangers noted on the list as " deleted" were not assigned numbers. Also, hangers which are on " Hold" will not be assigned

numbers.

In some instances, one hanger number on the hanger tabulation or list will correspond with two or more hangers in the field. These hangers are identical in construction and adfacent to each other.

Numbers will be assigned to these hangers, from low order to high order, using one of the following ' criteria in order:

1)-

Hanger located farther north receives lower number 2) Hanger located farther east receives lower number and 3) Hanger located at higher elevation receives a lower number.

The total population list contains 6413 hangers.

This list includes l

all Category I hangers which support safety and/or non safety related cable pans or bus ducts in Category I plant areas.

During the sample selection process, the cable pan hangers or supports which were QC accepted by L.K. Comstock Co. or E. C. Ernst Co. on or before June 30, 1984 will be selected for reinspection.

The hangers will be' verified as complete and QC accepted through a review by BCAP personnel of documents on file with L.K. Comstock Co. or Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory.
