CENERAL:
1.1 Scope 1.1.1 This Standard Specification Form 1701 consists of four Articles 1 through 4, and the " Additional Requirements for Nuclear Safety Related Work". Articles 1 through 4 shall apply for all WORK; the " Additional Requirements shall ir addition apply for Nuclear Safety Related Work only.
All weldin2 shal; conform to the requirements of this Standard Specification unless otherwise indicated in the Project Specification or on the design drawings.
1.1.2 Welding shall include shop and field welding of the following, as indicated or the design drawings or in the Project Specification or as required for the WORK a.
Structural steel, embedded steel and miscellaneous steel.

Steel liners for primary containments, fuel pools, sacrificial shield walls i
and other facilities.

1.2.2 Welding Procedurest Prior to starting fabrication of any steelwork to be welded, Contractor shall subnit to the Consulting Engineers, for review, three copies of welding procedures and welding procedure qualification test reports, in accordance with AWS D1.1.
These shall include, but shall not be limited to, the following for both shop and field welding:
Types of welds and welded joints.
a.

c.
Size, classification and material specification for all electrodes proposed for use.
d.
Method of groove and edge preparation.
Lengths and spacing of Intermittent welds.
e.
f.
Methods and/or sequence of welding to avoid distortion and to minimize residual shrinkage stresses.
g.
Number and travel speed of passes for each weld.
h.
Procedures for preheating base metals, and minimum preheat and interpass temperaturce required.
1.2.3 Qualification of Welders and Weldina operators a.
All welders and welding operators employed on the WORK shall be certified by an approved testing laboratory in accordance with AWS D1.1. Laboratories for testing welders and welding operators shall be of recognized standing. All costs in connection with this certification shall be borne by contractor.
b.
Contractor shall submit to Purchaser, for review, two copies of these quali-fications (including requalification, if any) test reports and certificates.
No welding shall be performed until these qualification certificates are accepted by Purchaser.
2.
MATERIALS 2.1 Cenerrl Provisions: All materials shall conform to the requirements of this Article 2 unless otherwise indicated in the Project Specification or on the design drawings.

2.3.2 Electrodes specified in Table 01-1 are for general structural use in accor-dance with the indicated AWS requirements.
For steels with special proper-ties, such as resistance to brittle fracture (as A131 steel), and for corrosion-resistant steels, stainless-clad steels, and stainless steels, the recommendations of both the steel and electrode manufacturers shall be secured for each specific steel and each specific use, unless otherwise indicated.
These recommendations shall be submitted to the Consulting Engineers for review prior to any use of the recommended electrodes for these steels.

PERFORMANCE i
3.1 Generril Provisions:

3.2.2 Fillet welds across flanges of any steel member will not be permitted unless specifically indicated on the, design drawingst any undercutting or damage that will reduce the flange area will, not be permitted.
3.2.3 Preheat and interpass temperatures shall conform to the requirements of AWS DI.1 and shall be as required for the thickest part of the base metal beina welded.
3.2.4 The maximum preheat and interpass temperature for austenitic stainle'ss steel i-shall be 350 degrees F.
3.2.5 Except for stainless clad steel joints or stainless - to - carbon steel joints, the austenitic stainless steel filler metal used shall contain a minimum of 5% ferrite.
3.2.6 The use of wide welds to overcome poor fit-up will not be permitted.
3.2.7 Surfaces and edges to be welded shall be properly prepared according to AWS Dt.1, prior to welding. Any coating containing sine or cadmium, on the areas to be welded, shall be removed before welding, unless otherwise indicated.
3.2.8 In welding stainless clad steel, the carbon steel side shall be welded first.
4.
INSPECTION AND EXAMINATION 4.1 Ceneral Provisions:
4.1.1 All welding shall be inspected and examined by Contractor in accordance with this Article 4 unless otherwise indicated in the Project Specification or or the design drawings. Inspection and examination reports shall be submitted tc the Consulting Engineers for review.
4.1.2 Purchaser or the Consulting Engineers may, during the course of the WORK, review the various phases of the WORK performed by Contractor, at Contractor's plant and at the Project Site, for compilance with all requirements of this Standard Specification,* the Project Specification and the design drawings,

A1.1 Quality Assurance for welding for nuclear safety related work shall conform to the requirements of the Quality Assurance Articles of the Project Specifica-tion in addition to Paragraph 1,.2 of this Form 1701.

A4.3.5 Vacuum Box Testing:
Shall conform to the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section III, Division 2, Appendix IX, Article IX - 2000.
A4.3.6 Pneumatic Testing:
Shall conform to the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section III, Division 1, Subarticles NB through NE -
6300.
A4.3.7 Visual Examination:
Shall conform to the applicable requirements of A$ME Boiler and i'ressure Vessel Code, Sectic III, Division 2 and Section V.
A4.4 Acceptance
- A4.4.1 For containment liner, pool liner, sacrificial shleid wall liner, nuclear plant component supports and their related work, welds meeting the following acceptance standards will be accepted
- s. The acceptance standards for Radiographic, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant methods shall be as indicated in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section III, Division 1, Subsections NB through NC, and Division 2 Subsections CB and CC.
- b. The acceptance standards for Vacuum Box Testing method shall be as specified in Subsections CB and CC of ASME Boller and Pressure Vessel Code,Section III, Division 2.
- c. The acesptance standards for Pneumatic Testing method shall be as specified in Subsections NB through NE of the indicated ASME Code,Section III,-Division 1.
- d. The acceptance standards for Visual Examination for welding shall conform to ASME Code,Section III, Division 2, Subsections CB and CC.
b A4.4.2 Any welds falling to meet the indicated acceptance standards shall be replaced as and re-examined 100% until they meet the requirements, and additional examina-tion shall be performed in accordance with Tables 01-2 and 01-3,,by Contrac-tor, with no additional cost to Purchaser..
