Subject: -REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM EVALUATION REPORT NO. 50-54/87-02 (OL)
On March 27, 1987, the NRC administered a written requalification examination
to ten of your licensed operators. The purpose of this examination was to
assess the impact on operator knowledge of your past -practice of allowing
unproctored facility administered written requalification examinations iden-
tified in NRC Inspection Report No. 50-54/86-02.
The results of this evaluation are documented in the Region I Evaluation Report
which is enclosed with this letter. In a telephone conference held on
May 6,1987 with you and other members of your management, we expressed our
- perception of the significant aspects of these results. Our specific' concern
is that senior operators may be deficient in the area of theoretical knowledge
due to a weakness in the requalification training program. During this con-
versation, we . requested that you review and assess the 'information provided in
this report and in the individual examinations, copies of which are being
returned under separate cover. Please provide us with your response or
intended actions within 30 days of the date of this letter.
This request for information was approved by the Office of Management and '
Budget under Clearance Number 3150-0101, which expires May 31, 1989. Comments
on burden and duplication may be directed to the Office of Management and
Budget, Reports Management Room 3208, New Executive Office Building,
Washington, D.C. 20503.
