I.E. INFORMATION NOTICE 86-05, SUPPLEMENT 1 MAIN STEAM SAFETY, VALVE TEST FAILURES AND RING SETTING ADJUSTMFNTS

Dear Ms. Wegner:

J The description of circumstances section entitled "Susquehanna 1 and 2" of I.E. Notice 86-05, Supplement 1 states that: " Pennsylvania Power & Light Company personnel recognized the 6R10 designation used by Seabrook to describe their valves (IN 86-05) as being the same as the Crosby Safety Relief Valves (SRV) installed at Susquehanna Units 1 and 2. . . .".

The closing sentence of the above paragraph, relative to Susquehanna 1 and 2, states that "information in IN 86-05 and this supplement may be 1

applicable to boiling water reactors".

To avoid any unnecessary concern by the Utilities having boiling water reactors and to clarify the relevance of IN 86-05 as it applies to the Crosby Main Steam Valves supplied for boiling water reactors, Crosby offers the following:

Each and every Crosby 6R10 HB-65-DF Valve sold for Main Steam Service for Domestic boiling water reactors had the final ring settings established by test at full pressure and temperature flow conditions on Crosby's High Flow Facilities. Therefore, the I.E. Notice does not apply to Crosby Valve Style 6R10 or 8R10 HB-65-DF Valves installed on boiling water reactors.

Crosby feels that it is obligated to notify the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of this fact to eliminate any unnecessary concern by the utilities using Crosby 6R10 or 8R10 HB-65-DF valves for Main Steam application on boiling water reactors.
