Dear Mr. Corriveau:
In accordance with Chapter 92.7 " Reporting of New or Increased Discharges", of the Departments' Rules and Regulations, we hereby request permission to use Betz Slimicide C-74, (Dodecylguanidine hydrochlorine 5.0%, N-Alkyl (Cl2-40%, C14-50%,
C16-10%) dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride 8.0%, inerts 87%).
This Betz product will be evaluated as a means to control corbicula (Asiatic clams) in the service water system at Peach Bottom Generating Station. Use of the Betz Slimicide C-74 is not expected to violate effluent limitations specified in the subject NPDES permit.
We intend to maintain a concentration of 25 ppm of the product in the service water system being treated. Service water flows are approximate?y 24,000 gpm. After combination with main ccndenser cooling water flows of 750,000 or 1,500,000 gpm, one unit and two unit operation respectively, concentrations at discharge point 001 will be less than 1 ppm. Potential I concentration will be even lower considering reaction rates of
! the active ingredients.
Continuous addition of Betz Slimicide C-74 for five days (120 hours0.00139 days <br />0.0333 hours <br />1.984127e-4 weeks <br />4.566e-5 months <br />) at 25 ppm is requested. Approximately 8 applications per year are anticipated (2 service water systems x 4 times per l
year).

Betz Slimicide C-74 has been determined by our consultant, RMC, to be an effective means of controlling corbicula. The use of this product would be particularly advantangeous in treating our fire water system where maintaining a chlorine residual could be a problem. This treatment would be used instead of continuous chlorination for clam control. We will, however, continue to evaluate the use of both chlorine and Betz C-74 on the basis of long term usage.
Enclosed are product information materials supplied by the manufacturer. Note that Betz C-74 has EPA Registration No. 3876-145.
