SUBJECT:
WNP-2 DESIGN VERIFICATION FROGRAM e
The Washington Public Power Supply Systen (WPPSS) has completed their design verification progran for WNP-2 facility. WPPSS selected three systems as part of their IDVP to reverify that the WNP-2 design ccmplies with the comnitments of the safety analysis report and the applicable regulatory recuirements.
The three systems were the high pressure core spray, residual heat removel and the reactor feecwater syster.
The actual design reverification cd tnese sustems was carried out by UPPSS personnel wnc had not Deen invclved in tne UNP-2 project.
The incepencent nanagement assessrert and the aaeauacy of the program was core by Technical Audit Associates (TAA).
i The NRC has received the final report on the procram from WPPSS and a copy is 4ttached.
In addition to the review of the three selecteo systems, five i
i studies were conducted to evaluate the interaction between reactor systems.
These studies covered:
- 1) fire protection interaction with RHR system, 2) i pipe breaks, missile, jet impingement, falling objects and flooding, 3) environmental cualification of safety-related equipment, 4) wall and floor I
slab structure loading and 5) Class IE instrument racks.
Of the total of 165 findings, 40 were resolved based on subsequent information, 26 were classified l
as findings and remaining 99 were classified as observations.
Some of these j
findings were also reported to the NRC under 10 CFR 50.55(e) or 10 CFR 21.
The final report from Technical Audit Associates is expected in the next few days and will be distributec soon after.
