1.,1983 YDE:MEILReading File MEMORANDUM FOR: James M. Taylor, Director Division of Quality Assurance, Safeguards and Inspection Programs FROM:

Richard H. Vollmer, Director Division of Engineering

SUBJECT:

WNP-2 COMP 0NENT SUPPORT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION This is in response to your memo of July 1,1983. The concerns expressed in that memo were further discussed between representatives of the IE Construction Appraisal Team (CAT) and DE personnel from the MEB and HTEB. As a result of that meeting it was agreed that the MEB would request the additional information from the applicant that we believe necessary to correct the inadequate documentation characterized by the CAT findings with regard to component support construction. That infomation request was forwarded to DL on July 29, 1983 in a memo from Robert J. Bosnak, Chief, Mechanical Engineering Branch, to Al Schwencer, Chief, Licensing Branch #3 (enclosed).

With regard to the applicant's request for relief from the welding requirements of the AISC Code, a reply is being prepared by MTEB.

Richard H. Vollmer, Director Division of Engineering
