JUSTIFICATION FOR INTERIM OPERATION, WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECT N0. 2 In your July 29, 1983 memo, you requested the Accident Evaluation Branch (AEB) to review the applicant's justification in the areas of:
(1) The equipment function within a system and its failure consequences (2) Operability times and codes (3) Alternative equipment to accomplish the safety function AEB has reviewed the subject document and is prepared to respond in the areas of radiation dose and operability times. We do not have any review responsibility directly related to items 1 and 3 cited above for the equipment identified in the July 29, 1983 nemo.
The staff has previously accepted the applicant's nethodology for calculating the post-accident radiation doses following either a loss-of-coolant or a high energy line break accident. Therefore, AEB concludes that the radiation requirements presented in the justifications should be reasonable for use in defining an appropriate radiation qualification requirement for the stated component.
- Secondly, AEB has no review responsibility for the review of the operability times for the various components identified and therefore will make no conclusion regarding the acceptability of the operability requirement.
The AEG review for WNP-2 was perforned by F. Akstulewicz (X24993).
