REQUEST FOR DOCUMENT SEARCH RELATED TO WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM LITIGATION Enclosed is a memorandum for William J. Dircks from E. Leo Slaggie requesting a search of agency documents regarding five issues identified by the Department of Justice regarding the federal government's litigation with the Washington Public Power Supply System (WPPSS).
Please provide Connie Pappas of my staff with a listing of all relevant documents by subject, originator, recipient, date and location for each issue.
In order to reduce future search efforts, you may wish to provide copies of these documents in response to this request. Also, please provide us with a list of documents related to WPPSS which are not clearly related to any of the five issues.
We would appreciate your response by April 8,1983.

DOCUMENT SEARCH RELATED TO WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM LITIGATION The United States Department of Justice is currently involved in litigation centered around the attempt by the Washington Public Power Supply System to build five nuclear power pinnts at Satsop and Hanford, Washington.
By letter dcted March 21, 1983, the Department of Justice requested the Commission's assistance in preparing for that litigation (attached).
This office has agreed to provide such assistance.
In the attached letter, Justice identifies five (5) issues _
related to the Sucolv Svstem litication.
Documents in the a_ge r.cv ' s nossession relatec tc tnese iEsues are likelv to be the subject of civil discovery requests or FOIA requeste.
Based on this likelihood and in light of Justice's recuest for assistance, we believe that the appropriate staff offices should begin as soon as possible to identify re i nv n r. t documents to avoid unnecessary delay in responding to any future discoverv or FU1A reauests.
Accordingly, we' recueEt that a cocument search be instituted regarding each o: the five issues identified bv the Department of Justice.
For each issue, we would appreciate a listino of all' relevant documents by subioct, oricinator, recioient and

date.
If possible, the location (original or heaaquarters en3' office) of each document should be shown.
_ Finally, EEould vour review identify any docur.ents related to WPPSS not clearly related to any of the five issues identified by Justice, please list such documents separately.
I have asked C. Sebastian Alcot (X41493) to coordinate the agency's identification of relevant documents.
