NuPac PAS-1 SAR, Revision 3, Certificate of Compliance 9184

Dear Mr. MacDonald:

Enclosed please find eight (8) copies of the revised pages to convert Revision 2 of the NuPac Saf ety Analysis Report for the NuPac PAS-1 package to Revision 3.

Also enclosed is a check for

{

$150 to cover the cost of a minor amendment to the Certificate of Compliance.

The proposed changes are very minor, with the sum-mary of each proposed change provided below.

First, sheet 2 of the SAR drawings (Ref: X-20-218D) has been modified to eliminate the specific sample cask (payload) names (i.e.,

Sentry, General Electric, and Lilco) to say " Typical Sample Cask, Ref".

This revises the SAR text to be consistent with NRC Certificate of Compliance No. 9184, Rev ision 0, and alleviates any conf usion on the part of the end user regarding acceptable sample casks which may be carried within the NuPac PAS-1 package.

Second, the isotopic inv ento ry has been modified to include activation products such as cobalt and iron (see Pages 5-1 and 5-2).

The inclusion of these isotopes only slightly change the total activity of the system and the resulting ef fect upon the calculated dose rates was determined to be negligible.

In addi-tion, the formula in the thermal section for calculating the G.

curies-to-thermal watts conversion (see Pages 3-17 and 3-18L has '

been clarified.

The resulting conversion factor contihu"es to show a negligible amount of internal heat loading 6u,e to the; V

payload.

9tW Finally, Section 7.4.1 of the SAR entitled " Storage Procedures" has been modified to include storage in either of two conditions:

disassembled or assembled.

This allows a greater degree of flexibility with the end user and will not compromise the inte-grity of the NuPac PAS-1 package in any regard.
