. Docket ilo. 50-397 MEMORAi1Duti FOR: Walter R. Butler, Chief Containment Systems Branch Division of Systems Integration FROM:
Victor Benaraya, Chief Chemical Engineering Branch Division of Engineering
SUBJECT:
ESTIMATE OF SOLID DEBRIS F0PJiATI0ft FROM ORGAllIC MATERIALS IllSIDE C0ffTAlt:fiEllT UtlDER DBA C0tiDITI0tlS FOR Wi1P-2.
By letter dated March 15, 1982, in accordance with SRP 6.2.2, we provided you with the estimated quantity of solid debris from unqualified paints that can potentially reach the emergency sumps under design basis pipe break accidents for UtiP-2. The applicant has by letter dated July 7, 1982, infomed us that the amount of unqualified organic coating inside the containment is now estimated to be approximately 5,000 square feet instead of the 49 square feet which was reported in their March 3,1932 letter.
We have evaluated the quantity of unqualified paint that can potentially reach the emergency sumps under design basis pipe break accidents for the new amount. Because of the increase in unqualified paints, the debris volune from organic coatings is now 5 cu. ft. (see Enclosure 1) instead of the 0.1 cu. ft we had previously reported.

O ESTIMATED SOLID DEBRIS FORMATION INSIDE CONTAltE4ENT OF i,
WNP-2 UNDER DBA C0t4DITIONS i
Solid Debris Formation Assumptions:
(1) Source term of NUREG-0588 adjusted for plant-i specific parameters and effects of post-accident recirculation of sump water.
(2) Ratio of debris volume to original volume of unqualified paints = 2.
1 (3) Solid debris formation completed when 90% of radiation energy is released.
