50-397 Our input to the tifiP-2 DES discussed a potential pathway for radionuclide contamination of the two on site wells in the unconfined aquifer and a possible Environmental Technical Specification on monitoring and use of the wells.
fir. Staley of cur !lydrologic Engineering Section talked to !!r. Don Elle from the Department of Energy (DOE) in Richland, t!ashington (Phone 8-444-7387) and was told that DOE does not have any nonitoring wells between the !WE burial site and the UtlP-2 site. lfr. Elle also said that the tritium levels in the two nells in the unconfined aquifer exceeded the EPA standards and that is apparently why use was stopped in 1978.
