Lkfiet Files SAB Plant File SAB Rdg JUN 2 41983 WHRegan Docket flo. 50-397 MENORAtlDUM FOR:

Albert Schwencer, Chief Licensing Branch flo. 2, 00L FROM:

Wm. H. Regan, Jr., Chief Siting Analysis Branch, DE

SUBJECT:

WflP-2 DES SCHEDULE IMPACT As you are aware, the SAB is responsible for, among other things, providing population data to the Accident Evaluation Branch (AEB) for use in prepara-tion of the DES input. SAB did transmit data on the population beyond 50 miles to the AEB on June 11, 1981 (See Enclosure A), but noted there that the applicants' population data from 0 to 50 miles had serious inconsistencies which required resolution.

Although we had been in almost daily contact with the applicant and had expected a meeting as well as a resolution of this item by June 11, 1981, to date no meeting or resolution has occurred.

We wish to note the potential this item may have for continuing to impact the WflP-2 DES schedule, and request that you contact the applicant in this regard. We are available for a meeting with the applicant on this item at any time.

JUN 11 1981 Docket No. 50-397 MEMORANDUM FOR:

R. Wayne Houston, Chief Accident Evaluation Branch, DSI FROM:

Wm. H. Regan, Jr., Chief Siting Analysis Branch, DE

SUBJECT:

WNP-2 YEAR 2000 POPULATION 0-500 MILES FOR DEIS Attached, as requested, is a copy of the WNP-2 year 2000 population for 50-500 miles. The 0-50 mile portion of the table has been intentionally left blank.

The applicants data in their ER, FSAR and Emergency Plan are seriously inconsistent.

We have been working with the applicant through R. Auluck, NRR Project Manager, to resolve these discrepancies.

For scheduling purposes a minimum of one week will be required to evaluate the applicants data when it becomes available.

No firm date has been established for the applicants submittal although we have been in daily contact with his technical staff.

The 50-500 mile U. S. data is based on a POPSEC run and adjusted using BEA projections for the year 2000.

The Candian data is based on 1976 census as reported in "Candian Almanac and Director, 1978" Copp Clark Publishing and

" Statistics Canada, Population Projections for Canada and the Provinces, 1976-2001".

This data was provided by A. Sinisgalli (x24884) of my staff.
