SUBJECT:

WPPSS NUCLEAR PLANT 2 SHORT-TER!i ATf10 SPHERIC DIFFUSION ANALYSIS The preliminary relative concentration (X/Q)vvalues submitted to AAB on Dec. 18, 1978 were calculated according to the guidance in draft Regulatory Guide 1.xxx. This interim staff position outlined the use of.3 percent 1ic direction dependent X/Q values. The guidance in Regulatory Guide 1.145 represents the present staff position on the analysis of short tem atmospheric diffusion.. This guide outlines the calculation of.5 percentile direction dependent X/Q values. These X/Q's for the WPPSS-2 site have been calculated to be as follows:

Averaging Relative Distance (m)

Sector time period Concentration (X/Q)(sec/n,3) 1950 SSE 0-2 hours 1.4 x 10 '

4827 SSE 0-8 hours 3.3 x 10-5 4827 SSE 8-24 hours 2.4 x 10-5 4827 SSE 1-4 days 1.3 x 10-5 4827 SSE 4-30 days 5.3 x 10-5 I

These values are less conservative than the preliminary values and R. W. Houston has determined that since you have already done your calculations using the praliminary values.SER section 2.3.4 will describe the calculations as done by J. Goll (1978).
