SumARY OF fiY VISIT TO FAULT EXPOSURES I!! !!ALLULA GAP, UA AREA (WPPSS_2_. PROJECT) Afl0 TO GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF Ai: ERICA !'EETI:!G

CORVALLIS, OR.17-21 i'ARCil 1980 . -

! Mar. 17, 7-10 p.m. Pasco, WA. fact with I'r. D. Tillson, UPPSS Chief Geologist and ny guide to the geology of the region, and !'essrs. J. Coughty and J. Imray, both WPPSS geophysical consultants. Olscussed our respective involvements i

with the WPPSS 2 project, the status of geoscientific activity associated with the project, and laid plans for next days trip.

Mar. 18, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Spent day with 14essrs. Tillson, Doughty, Inray and Un.

Kiel. The latter is a.UPPSS geologist. He visited the following sites, discussed their possible significance.and considered their possible relationship to other

! geological features using available geological maps and cross-sections and magnetic and gravity data compilations: (1) Finley fault in basalts in quarry near Finley, UA; (2) terraces along the Columbia River, UA; (3) Hallula fault zone, truncated spurs, brecciated basalt and angular topography at Hallula Cap,

, WA; (4) Dry Creek fault in basalts in roadcut near Westen, OR; (5) Complexly faulted Touchet sediments with offset clastic dikes in roadcut 1 mi south of -

Umapine, OR; (6) white volcanic ash beds (two) in Touchet sediments with clastic i dikes cross-cutting ash, in roadcut-borrow pit near Touchet, UA.

i Mar. 19, Da.m.-5p.m. Geological Society of America, Cordilleran Section meeting at Corvallis OR. iiet with Mr. D. A. Swanson, USGS volcanologist, at poster session on "tiewly completed geologic map of the Columbia River Basalt Group, l Eastern Washington and florthern Idaho". By prior arrangement he gave ne a l

copy of USGSbBulletin 1457-G, " Revisions ~1n Stratigraphic !!o' enlature of i the Columbia River Basalt Group" and ozalid copics of open-file report 77-100 .

" Reconnaissance Geologic !!ap of the Columbia River Basalt Group, Pullnan-and Walla Walla Quads., SE UA and Adjacent 10," and.open fidi report 79-1303,
