= o Region III (Chicago) received notification from the licensee that a Po-E10 static eliminator bar had been-received' from the 3. D. Warren Co. in West Brook, Maina that was leaking. Ths-licensee stated that a spot of.

contamination reading 75,000 DPH/100 cm2 had been found in the delivery -

truck and vaa being decontaminated. The licensee had not yet surveyed the outside of the package in which the bar had been delivered.

The static eliminator bar contains about 23 millicuries of PO-210 and is a generally licensed device.

The Po-210 is contained in ceramic microspheres and if ingested little if any Po-210 would be absorbed by the body.

Neither 3M nor the FRC plans a press releas'.

The Department of Transportation (DOT), the State of Minnesota, Region I and

. the carrier are b'eing notified.

Region III' v111 reconsnand that DOT identify all carriera 'of this package and perform radiation surveys of all vehicles involved.

Region III received notification of this incident in a telephone call from the l

. P ant health physicist at about 4:40 p.m. CST on March 6,1980. An attempt to notify the carrier at that time was unsuccessful.
