Dear Alan:
Twenty-nine loggerhead turtles and five green turtles were removed from the St. Lucie Plant intake canal during the October -
December quarter of 1986. Two loggerheads were dead when recovered.
Measurements for all animals are attached. All but one of the live turtles were released into the ocean off Hutchinson Island.
The one exception was a lethargic and emaciated loggerhead which was captured on 290CT and transfered to a tank at the House of Refuge Museum. This turtle died on 310CT. No turtles were reported from other plants.

The turtle was recaptured in the intake canal and released 7.0 miles south of the intake on 16 MAR 84. It was recaptured in the intake canal on 24MAY85; AAH-565 was removed and replaced with AAH-986 and AAH-987; and, the turtle was re-leased 3.0 miles south of the intake. It was recaptured on 18JUL85 and released 7.0 miles south of the intake. Upon recapture on ll AUG86, AAH-986 (which was missing) was replaced with PPD-624, and the turtle was released 3.0 miles south of the intake.
Female RBI tag return. This turtle was removed from the intake canal, tagged ( AAH-608, AAH-609) and released 6.8 miles south of the intake on 5JUN84. The turtle was recaptured in the intake canal and released 6.8 miles south of the intake on 3AUG84. It was recaptured in the intake canal on 23MAY85; AAH-609 (which had apparently fallen off) was replaced with AAH-983; and the turtle was released 3.0 miles south of the intake. It was recaptured in the intake canal and released 3.0 miles south of the intake on 24JUL85. Upon recapture en 18JUN86, AAH-983 (which was missing) was replaced with AAJ-289, and the turtle was released 3.0 miles south of the intake.

M SABI tag return. This turtle was removed from the intake canal, tagged (AAJ266/NNYS48) and released 3.0 miles south of the intake on 2MAY86. It was recaptured in the intake canal on 4JUN86, 26JUN86,16JUL86 and SAUG86. After each of these captures,.the turtle was released 3.0 miles south of the intake. Upon recapture on 5AUG86, tag AAJ266 was observed to be corroded and a new tag (PPD 616) was applied. AAJ266 was missing when the turtle was re-captured in the intake canal on 30SEP86. It was released 6.2 miles south of the. intake on that date.
