On Tuesday, December 9, 1986, Surry Power Station experienced a pipe rupture on the 18 inch suction line to the "A" main feedwater pump in Unit 2.
We believe that the pipe wall thinnings phenomena which caused the failure to be single phase (water) erosion / corrosion. This phenomena was not anticipated for single phase (water) applications by previous industry experience.
You are cordially invited to attend a presentation by Virginia Power that will provide a better understanding of the feedwater event and subsequent investigation results. The presentation will be given on February 10, 1987 at the locations identified on Attachment 1.
An agenda for the presentation is provided as Attachment 2 for your additional information.
