August 25, 1986 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT PNS-IV-86-02 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without' verification' or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
UNAUTHORIZED FIREARMS ONSITE The licensee determined on August 22, 1986, that sometime in June 1986, a security watchman had entered and exited.the FSV site without a small 22 caliber handgun hidden in his boot being detected. The individual's access to the site has been terminated and PSC is conducting an investigation of the matter. All personnel entering and leaving the site are being hand searched.
The NRC Operations Center was notified at 5:11 a.m. (EDT) via the ENS tele}. hone.
Tne licensee does not intend to issue a press release.
