8 Gentlemen:

Recently representatives froa Erie County and PEMA met with officials from the Perry Nuclear facility in Ohio to learn about the warning system at the facility should something go wrong.'

There appears to be an elaborate system to notify the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, NRC, and the local Ohio count Aes within a few miles radius of the nuclear facility.

How-ever, the Erie County Board of Health is still concerned about the mechanism.to notify communities across state lines.

In light of the recent disaster in Russia, we are concerned that the noti-fication might not be timely-for communities across the state line in Pennsylvania.

It is our understanding that under the present NRC requirements the nuclear fa.cility is not obligated to inform communities in Pennsylvania. 'Perhaps-the present requirements should be reexamined by NRC in light of the incident in Russia.

Sincerely, y $hh40 M/M,
