I am pleased to transmit for your information an Executive Summary of the Unit'ed States Advanced Light Water Reactor Requirements Document (ALWR). The ALWR Requirements Document is a performance specification or design--envelope for a complete nuclear power plant, either PWR or BWR, with capacities ranging from s~
500 MWe to 1350 MWe. This document is twing written for the nuclear industry - '
by the Electric Power Research Institute. The Requirements Document isnow under review by the USNRC staff.
When approved by the NRC, the Requirements Document is intended to be usen as a requirements road map for designers of. future nuclear power plants. Tlie document will provide the specific plant attributes desired by' the nuclear utilities and ourselves for the plants of the 1990's and beyond. Some trore important attributes are for example: ,'
