Sute 400 1776 Eye Street, NW Washinginn D.C. 20006-3708 Sutiisot: Chaneca to Generic Fundamentale Examination Dates
Dear Mr. Davis:
' in our April 19,1999, letter to you, we indicated willingness to pursue your recommendation that the NRC conduct three vice two generic fundamental examination (GFE) administrations per year, Such an incrosse in examination administration frecuency would improve the flexibility of utility training and fasting schedules. We are now pleased to inform you we have been successful in modfying the existing GFE schedule from administerin0 the examination twice per year to administering the examination three times per year.
Transitional GFE Sdadule Date Chanos Presently, this examinston is administered twice yearly in the months of April and October.
However, effective in calendar year 2000, the GFE will be administered in the months of Apn!,
July, and October. Administering the examination three times per year during April, July, and October will provide a transitional change that gives utilities more lead time to adjust their training and testing schedules durin0 the upcoming year. The examination will continue to be given on the first Wednesday fellewmg the first Sunday in the examination months. Renponnan to Administrative Letter 99-20 may indicate any of the months referenced above.
Long Term Schedule Change j
Effective in calendar year 2001, the NRC will plan to adminster the GFE in the months of Feuruary, June, and October. This schedule will continue to permit greater flexibility and a more even distribution of annual examination dates. As stated above, the examination will continue to be Diven on the first Wednesday following the first Sunday of the examination month. The NRC staff will review this revised ersmination schedule to determine the need for 1
eny future schedule changes.
