January 23, 1987 AFFIDAVIT OF PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY, EXETER, NEW HAMPSHIRE FILED IN OPPOSITION TO REDUCTION OF THE EMERGENCY PLANNING ZONE I, Stephen G. Kurtz, Principal of Philli'. s Exeter Academy, first being duly sworn and on oath, and on behalf of Phillips s
Exeter Academy and all those students, faculty, and staff who attend or are employed by Phillips Exeter Academy, say as follows:
1.
There are.approximately 980 students enrolled at Phillips Exeter Academy of whom 860 are full time boarding students, and 120 are day students, of whom approximately 100 are without transportation.
2.
The Academy has no means of transportation available which would guarantee the immediate evacuation of said boarding students and day students without transportation in the event such an evacuation became necessary.
3.
There are approximately 480 faculty and staff employed by Phillips Exeter Academy of whom, to the best of our knowledge, 8701290197 870123 PDR ADOCK 05000443 G

approximately 300 have no means of transportation available to them in the event immediate evacuation became necessary; and, in addition, there are approximately 40 faculty families who reside on campus, and who at any given time may be without transportation.
4.
The Phillips Exeter Academy is currently located within tne ten mile Emergency Planning Zone, but would not be located in the Emergency Planning Zone if the zone were reduced to one mile.
5.
The Phillips Exeter Academy and its Trustees are concerned for the health, safety and wellbeing of its student body, faculty and staff, especially those for whom transportation may not ue available in the event an evacuation is ordered.
6.
Therefore, it is respectfully requested that the Emergency Planning Zone remain at its present ten mile a
