50-328 TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY - DIVISION OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING DESICN CALCULATION EFFORTS RELATING TO SEQUOYAH
Reference:
Letter from me to you dated January 20, 1987, regarding TVA DNE Design Calculation Efforts In the referenced letter, TVA described the Division of Nuclear Engineering (DNE) Design Calculation Efforts which are presently underway and were recently audited by an NRC inspection team. This submittal also contained a conunitment for completion of efforts on Sequoyah unit 2 to be accomplished by January 31, 1987, and/or scheduled in accordance with restart requirements.
As a result of the DNE efforts in January 1987 and in preparation for the February 1987 NRC audit. TVA reevaluated the scope and quantity of effort remaining to meet this connaitment. This activity has enabled TVA to fully define the scope of work involved in completing the calculation efforts within each engineering branch and has also identified areas in which additional work would provide considerable enhancement of efforts to date. Such areas include miscellaneous steel structures (Civil Engineering Branch) and calculation sampling for technical adequacy in both the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Branches.
Based upon progress of these efforts to date, the above commitment should be revised to state that by April 1, 1987. TVA will review, update, or regenerate the essential calculations required to support restart of Sequoyah unit 2.
If you have any questions concerning these efforts, please call Beth L. Hall at (615) 870-7459.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY 8703090085 870227 PDR ADOCK 05000328 F
