NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 2066H001 June 10, 1999

Dear Workshop Participant:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is developing a Standard Review Plan (SRP) for use by the staff in reviewing decommissioning plans and other information used by licensees and other responsible parties to support decommissioning and license termination.

The goal of the SRP will be to enable NRC staff to evaluate information submitted by licensees in a timely, efficient, and consistent manner, to determine if the decommissioning can be conducted in such a way that the public health and safety is protected and the facility can be rel:ased in accordance with NRC's requirements. Since late 1998, NRC staff has been working with hiterested parties to identify and address the issues that will need to be addressed in the SRP. This workshop is our most recent effort to include the regulated community and other stakeholders in its development.

The NRC staff has developed drafts of several modules (or chapters) of the SRP which are enclosed for your review. NRC staff is interested in obtaining comments on the draft SRP modules from all interested individuals and parties and we urge you to provide the staff with your comments. Also, please feel free to copy and distribute the draft SRP modules to any other interested individuals you may know. The SRP modules are also available on the Intemet at:
