Updated Reply to Notice of Violation (Inspection Report 97008),
Deficiencies in the Corrective Action and Calculation Verification Programs
Your letter of July 16,1997, which transmitted Inspection Report No. 97008, required a
response to a Notice of Violation. Our response to the notice was submitted A"3ust 15,
1997. In that response we made several commitments related to corictive actions to
prevent recurrence. One of the commitments was to establish a new condition
reporting system, which consolidates some corrective actions vehicles, by the end of
September 1997. The new system is computer-based and required new software to be
writton, tested, data-loadeJ, and implemented. During the data-loading phase,
problems developed related to data integrity concerns and discrepancies between the
development and test environments. These problems prevented completion of the
commitment by the end of September.
We discussed these problems with the NRC resident inspector prior to the end of
September and this letter documents that discussion. The new system was in place
and functioning October 14,1997,
in this letter we have reported a change to the completion date for one Nuclear
Regulatory Commission commitment, from September 30,1997 to Octobe.14,1997.
