Dear Mr. Denton:
In accordance with Reference (a), we provided our piping inspection plan for the LaSalle County Station Unit 2 Refueling Outage in Reference (b).
The inspection plan was prepared consistent with the guidance in Generic Letter 84-11.
Reference (c) transmitted acceptance of that inspection plan.
Statement 1 in Attachment A to Reference (b) was confusing in that it could-be (and was as indicated in Reference (c)) read that we intended to perform the Induction Heating Stress Improvement (IHSI) on approximately 40 additional welds. Our stess improvement planned for these welds will be done using Mechanical Stress Improvement Process (MSIP) rather than IHSI.
Conunonwealth Edison is aware that MSIP is not an approved stress improvement process at present.
Commonwealth Edison requests that the letter of December 16, 1986 be modified to remove reference to IHSI being done this outage. We apologize for the confusion caused by the poor choice of words used in Reference (b).
