%.....j March 2, 1987 Docket Nos. 99901075 and- 99901078 Mr. John Chapman Ship Safet; Branch Maritime Safety Division Department of Transport Braddon, ACT 2601

Dear Mr. Chapman:

Since our telephone conversation on January 21, 1987, we have been preparing for the inspection of the fabrication of the cask at Circleville Metal Works as requested by you on behalf of the Australian Department of Transport. To gain additional information regarding this project we have contacted Ms. Laurie Street Ames of Edlow International. From the conversations with Ms. Ames we urderstand that a contact has not been agreed upon hetween Edlow International and the Australian government. In order for us to plan for the inspection, we would appreciate it if we were notified when the contract is placed.

Additionally, in order to perform the inspection, we need to know the fabrica-tion schedule so that we may inspect the cask at a point in the fabrication when the most work is being performed. Also, information regarding the design of the cask and a list, and if possible copies, of the special process procedures such as welding, nondestructive testine (liquid penetrant, visual, etc.) and final inspection would be most h('oful. We did obtain a copy of the Ouality Assurance (QA) prooram submitted by Eggers Ridilhalgh Partners, Incorporated to the NRC for approval. This, ss we understand, will be the CA proaram that will be implemented at Circleville Metal Works for the fabrication of the cask.

We would appreciata it if you or your contractors would supply us with the information listed above. The information can be sent to the followina address:
