Fermi 2 Compliance with the ATWS Rule, 10CFR50.62 In response to your letter of December 19, 1986, Detroit Edison reconfirms the implementation schedule for ATWS compliance as stated in Reference 2.
Fermi 2 has installed an Alternate Rod Insertion (ARI) System, as described in FSAR Sectiona 4A.2.3.2.2.4, 7.1.2.1.34 and 7.6.1.18.2, and a Recirculation Pump Trip (RPT), as described in FSAR Sections 7.1.1.2 and 7.7.1.3.3.1.
Both systems are operational.
Design changes will be implemented to provide additional separation for the divisional RPT control cables in each of the recirculation pump field breaker cabinets.
This work will be completed prior to startup following the second refueling outage (estimated to be April 1990).
The modifications to the Standby Liquid Control System (SLCS) to meet the requirements of 10CFR50.62(c) (4) will include:

Increasing boron enrichment in the SLCS Storage Tank.
