Dear Mr. MacDonald:
. In response to your request of January '30,1987 (Reference 2), all four General Electric owned Model 1600 shipping containers have been inspected at the weld joint between the outer shell and the base plate. The dye penetrant test was used,-and no cracks were detected.
In all cases, the inspectors performing the tests were certified NDE Level II in liquid penetrant testing in accordance with the requirements of ASNT-TC-1A.
With this negative determination, the containers will be returned to service.
